Discovery Gospel Choir welcomes applicants for the role of Musical Director, to commence April 2026.

Musical Director Duties

  • To run and conduct rehearsals, performances and auditions
  • To source music from choir members and consult with arrangers
  • To select and programme material for performances
  • To oversee overall choir aesthetics and draw on choreographers or other experts if necessary
  • To circulate learning tracks for choir members
  • To attend monthly committee meetings
  • To work with the Choir Administrator and the elected choir Committee to develop and raise the professional profile of the choir
  • To liaise with the choir’s Wedding and Corporate Co-ordinator, conduct client consultations and direct music for weddings
  • To work with the Community Officer in leading workshops in schools, churches and community groups

Time Commitment & Compensation

The estimated time commitment for this position is approximately 1–1.5 days per week. This includes a weekly 2-2.5 hour rehearsal session on Tuesday evenings, along with preparation and background work, which can be completed in your own time. The role also involves approximately two performances (gigs) per term.

This is a paid position with an annual fee of €9,000–€10,000 pro rata, depending on experience. The choir operates on two terms per year.

Skills & Qualifications

The candidate should have strong leadership, communication and organisational skills. They should be musically competent and have a good knowledge of the voice and vocal health. They should have experience with choral conducting and an interest in world and gospel music. They must be open-minded and competent working with diverse groups of people. They should have a good understanding of churches, charities and the music sector and be supportive of the Christian and intercultural ethos of the choir.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an audition which will be organized very soon. Auditions will be 25 minutes long and will be with the choir. You will be required to do warm up exercises with the choir for 5 to 10 minutes, which may include a canon or musical game if you wish. You will be given a song in advance to rehearse with the choir.
